The Nonsense Begins

I was getting frustrated the other day because, well, I have a lot to say and nowhere to share it.  It has been a long time since I had a blog and a lot has changed since then.  I was very much into Scrapbooking at the time and although I’d love to have the time to do some more, I prefer to spend my time writing and if I do have the arty urge, I have an art journal which I can art away in. I also liked to share my photos, but I am sad and ashamed to say that I have barely touched my camera lately.  I’d like to remedy that though.  There is something to be said for seeing the world through the viewfinder.  It tends to draw everything into a small space and make it look bigger and more wonderful, which is truly magic.

And magic is something that means a lot to me.  Not the pulling-a-rabbit-out-of-my-hat type of magic, but the magic of Speculative Fiction – also known as sci-fi fantasy – which I love to write.  Dragons, sorcerers, swords and grand adventure.  I was inspired to sign up to NaNoWriMo last November and managed to finish a novel in 30 days, which suprised no-one more than it did me!  I am still playing with it but I hope to submit it for publication in some form or another this year. I am also writing romance, which is something I tried to do and failed many times over the years, so it will be interesting to see if I have any success with it.  And I have been writing poetry too, something I have done on and off all my life.  I thought I’d share a bit of all of those things here.  Along with any art, recipes, book and movie reviews and other topics I feel strongly about.

Such as “Outlander”.  I find it hysterical that almost 40 years after being a screaming, fainting, tartan-clad Bay City Roller fan as a teenager, I am once again involved in a fandom of a similar type.  Well, it does involve Scots in tartan and a lot of females getting moony-eyed over good-looking men!  It began many years ago when I became obsessed with the book series by Diana Gabaldon, and has escalated to a Facebook and Real Life obsession of both the books and television series.  No doubt I will post a few Outlander themed posts here as well. I’m not sure how it will all develop but I promise it will be interesting and fun.  And I hope you will join with me on this journey into the immensity of nonsense.

  1. Hi Tracey. I love blogs – so much more interesting than the ole Facebook! I’ll be following along – Bay City Roller fan but haven’t read any Outlander. Should I? Cheers Kathryn

    • Oh definitely Kathryn! Outlander, or Cross Stitch, is the first book. It will hook you in, then you can read the next 7, and she’s writing number 9, with a 10th promised! Then you can watch the series, which is absolutely awesome – the first 8 episodes are already out on DVD, the last 8 just finished airing so should come out later in the year. Season 2 is filming now 🙂

  2. Tracey can blame me for the books but the rest if the outlander obsession she created all on her own!! But yes Kathryn, you NEED to read the books …
